The meaning of Hildegard von Bingen's complex prophetic text, between symbolism and visions. ‘The things I do not see I do not know’. This is how Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179) describes the visions through which she gains knowledge of cosmic, human and divine realities. When the urgency to convey this message became inescapable, Hildegard began writing Scivias - ‘you know the ways’ - in an attempt to transform what she sees and hears into human language.
