The volume includes some of Andy Warhol's greatest masterpieces (in particular 44 paintings from the period between 1962 and 1984) that revolutionised the concept of art and completely changed the way we think about the process of creating a work of art. Andy Warhol, often referred to as an artist in the third person, encapsulated the consumer society of his era by integrating the most important images, hopes and aspirations of post-war America into his art. He did so with such authority and conviction that his art and persona became a brand in their own right, on a par with the objects and ideas they represented.
The title, Andy Warhol by Andy Warhol, emphasises Warhol's personal involvement in his art and its content, placing the artist at the centre not only as an icon, but also as a person who was extremely committed and involved in the era in which he lived. It aims to overcome the well-known clichés about Andy Warhol and instead emphasise his ambition, subjectivity and awareness as a person.
