Sir Gordon Howard Eliot Hodgkin (1932) is a British painter and printmaker. His first solo show was in London in 1962. In 1984, he represented Britainat the Venice Biennale, in 1985 he won the Turner Prize, and in 1992 he wasknighted. His early paintings tend to be made up of hard-edged curved formsin a limited number of colors. Around the beginning of the 1970s, his style becamemore spontaneous, with vaguely recognizable shapes presented in bright colorsand bold forms. This volume shows up Howard Hodgkin as a painter of emotionalsituations and experienced landscapes.
