This publication is dedicated to Italian ceramics produced between the Modernist and Informal periods, that is, between the beginning of the Twentieth Century and the Second World War, and focuses on pieces designed by artists, architects and designers that over fifty years re-shaped the Italian ceramic product, on the one hand awakening it from obsolete repetition of models “in the style of”, and on the other hand renewing a century-old tradition in form, models and decorative applications. Edited by Valerio Terraroli with the collaboration of Paola Franceschini, this publication contains the contribution of two important scholars in European ceramics: Dominique Forest from the Musée des arts décoratifs in Paris, who covers French territory, and Andrea Pauchova, director of the Brno museum, who covers the Bohemia-Austria area. The catalogue contains about 500 emblematic pieces including vases, sculptures and furniture pieces (the designers include Chini, Andlovitz, Ponti, Dolcetti, Martini, Tullio d’Albisola, Gariboldi, Biancini, Cambellotti, Melis, Fancello, Nonni, Melandri), rich biographical and bibliographical material of the artists and the work they produced, and a register of marks used in those years. The book is not only a unique and invaluable publication in terms of scholarly contributions and scientific research, it also contains an extraordinary repertoire of images, including rare and little-known pieces belonging to important private and public museum collections.
